Are you suffering with the symptom of menopause?Dr. Goel Montreal Chiropractor

January 25th, 2012

Are you suffering with the symptom of menopause?
The symptoms of menopause attack most women at a particular time in their lives.  Hot flashes, lack of sleep, and fatigue, together with the stressful demands of daily life in North America, can make coping with life a difficult challenge.   Feelings of hopelessness are commonly an additional burden for women during this intensely painful time in their lives. Options for a better life are also unclear at this time. Menopausal and pre-menopausal women have one thing in common:  they want to know the cause of their symptoms, and what they can do about them. The good news is there are many things that you can do to alleviate your menopausal symptoms naturally. By taking the right steps to restore your body to its natural hormonal balance, you can begin to feel and live better.
The problems start long before menopause and manifest more strongly when our body is going through the additional stress of fluctuating hormones.
Many women aren’t aware of the full spectrum of symptoms associated with menopause, and many are relieved to learn that what they are experiencing has an actual cause. Even though the average age of menopause is 52, symptoms can start months or even years before your period ends. Below are some of the most common symptoms that women experience:
 Hot flashes and/or night sweats
 Fatigue
 Cravings for sweets or carbohydrates
 Diminished sexual desire, vaginal dryness
Irritability, mood swings, depression, and/or anxiety
 Insomnia or restless sleep
Fuzzy thinking (difficulty concentrating, memory problems)
Weight gain, especially around the middle
 Stiffness and joint pain
 Irregular periods
Other menopausal symptoms include  worsening PMS, headaches, heart palpitations, thinning hair, dry skin, dry eyes, increased facial hair, urinary dysfunction, and digestive problems. You may have noticed one or two of these symptoms yourself in recent months — or you may be suffering from several. All of these symptoms have one thing in common: they are signs of hormonal imbalances which tend to peak during per menopause and menopause as your hormones begin to fluctuate.
The symptoms of menopause are exacerbated by external factors, such as the tremendous demands of both children and parents clamouring for our time and attention, our spouses demanding the same, hectic careers, and everyday living.  I wonder if our ancestors struggled as much as we do with menopause.
I do not dispute the fact that fluctuations of our hormone levels have consequences but what I am convinced of is that not all these symptoms are solely because of the hormonal fluctuation. Our lives today were created from our lifestyle choices throughout the years. This in turn will impact on the severity of our menopausal symptoms and how we handle the changes that invariably come from this important transitional period.    Why is it that even in the same family one woman suffers more than another?  To say it is only bad luck is not only false, it is also disempowering.
The question we need to ask ourselves is: what can we do on a daily basis to help us be healthier?  Toxicity and deficiency of proper nutrients for our cells will determine how we make the transition, and how healthy we will be after this transition.
The way we talk to ourselves about our world is important. How and what we eat is crucial. Whether we choose vegetables, fruit, proteins, and nuts versus processed foods and sweets is not the difference between a slim or heavy person; the difference lies in the happy, healthy cells that can sustain the stress of everyday life.
Exercise or lack of it will affect us as well. In another article I will discus the importance and benefits of regular exercise that goes far beyond a healthy, properly functioning heart. Suffice to say that exercise will also help to balance the hormones and its effect is greater than a slim waistline. It is a fact that weight training stimulates the production of repair and growth hormones. It is important to keep in mind those toxicities and deficiencies are cumulative. We may not feel the consequences of our poor lifestyle choices right away but when our body has an additional stress − like passage to menopause − the deficiencies and toxicities magnify.
Another important aspect is the proper functioning of our nervous system. Our nervous system controls all the functions in our bodies. If the spinal column is misaligned (which is the case for almost everyone in Western society because of sitting, accidents, and mental stress), it causes a decrease in nerve transmission. This can add extra stress on the individual who is already stressed to the maximum. The chiropractic check-up is one of the best ways to find out the current state of the nervous system.   While I am not claiming that chiropractic adjustment is a cure for menopause, the research study by Dr. Hayek proves that chiropractic adjustment decreases the production of the stress hormone (Cortisol levels, anxiety level, and depression levels  and significantly increased immune function. . This in turn has a positive effect on every cell, tissue, and organ in our bodies.
The goal is to befriend our body during this transition and provide plenty of support in our daily lifestyle choices.  In doing so, we will reap the benefit and also be able to function better in every endeavor we embark on. We’ve earned this period of our lives, and it does not have to be painful if we make responsible small choices daily.
When I mentioned to one of my patients that I am writing about menopause, she said, “I am so happy because I have suffered with this so much.” She then told me that because of her adjustments, not only has her knee pain diminished, she no longer limps when she gets into or out of the car, she wakes up happier, and she enjoys her own company. She is slowly incorporating better choices into her daily routine. Her menopause has not changed but she is changing and the menopause is not affecting her as badly.

Posture and Good Health, Dr. Goel Montreal Chiropractor

January 12th, 2012

Many of us can recall as children our mother telling us not to slouch and to stand up straight. We would straighten up in response, but gradually would slip back to our previous posture. What was our mother trying to tell us? Why did she think posture was so important?

Our mother thought poor posture was simply unattractive.  Maybe she also knew that eventually it would lead to back problems.  And she was right!  Poor posture will eventually result in pain, and that pain can alter your lifestyle.

Our body is affected by the forces of gravity. Normally our spine is shaped with an inside curve at the neck, an outside curve at the mid-back, and another inside curve on the low back.  Shoulders and pelvis should be even on both sides. Maintaining this correct spinal design will allow our body to function optimally.

We spend a lot of time in chairs, over books, computer keyboards, doing handwork, etc.  We abuse our bodies by sitting in the same place for hours at a time.  It is hard to sit upright for all this time, so we slouch down in the chair or hunch over the keyboard, alternating our position from the proper upright one to one that distorts the natural shape of the spine, in order to avoid the pain caused by muscle strain on the back.  We neglect to get up frequently to stretch, and often, we get no exercise at all that would keep our back muscles in good condition. Eventually, we find we are always slouching, not just when sitting, but when standing and moving around.  These poor habits will affect our spinal health.

Many spinal misalignments result from years of poor posture. When the nerves that run between the spinal bones are squeezed due to misalignment, the nerve flow to body organs is interrupted. Many painful symptoms may arise and a vicious cycle begins. Pain leads to improper posture which, in turn, precipitates more pain.

Poor posture goes hand in hand with fatigue and a negative mental outlook. When you are not confident about how you look, you become depressed. Depression leads to a lack of energy, hence a reduction in activity. Lack of physical involvement can cause increased weight gain as well as cardiovascular and digestive complications.

You no longer have to suffer with poor posture any more than you have to live with crooked teeth.  Many years ago, before the advent of orthodontics, crowded adult teeth causing pain and swelling were simply pulled out. Now we have the knowledge and the ability to make room for the crowded teeth by reshaping the mouth and straightening out the teeth. A similar situation exists in caring for the spine.  Before chiropractic was discovered, people used drugs, braces, girdles to lessen back pain.  Now we know how to restore good health to the back, and that is the route we choose to follow.

Of course it takes more time and money to save teeth than pull them but we’ve found it generally wiser to preserve than to waste.  Likewise, degeneration of the back due to poor posture leads to years of painful misery and poor health. If your spine has lost its normal shape and the joints in your neck or back are abnormally compressed, locked or misaligned, the discs between the bones may have already started to decay. Valuable correction time should never be wasted. Where the spine is concerned we must save rather than waste.

There are three phases in healing process. The first is relief care. With relief care some joint compression, muscle tension and nerve pressure can be relieved and most people feel better fast. However, the application of relief care is similar to inflating a tire with a leak. The damaged tire may be useful temporarily but will always require re-inflation. Further, the tire’s leak is a structural weakness, a warning that it may fail unexpectedly. While relief care is a valuable tool, it cannot reshape abnormal areas of the spine that cause disc tissue to wear away and spinal joints to become stiff, painful and arthritic. Think of relief care as temporarily relieving the pain and swelling caused by teeth that have grown too tightly together but without straightening the teeth and reshaping the mouth as the orthodontist would.

The second phase, Corrective care is a modern, advanced form of chiropractic treatment designed to realign twisted joints while simultaneously restoring the neck and back to their natural curved shapes. It requires detailed geometric spinal analysis and a specially-trained doctor. With corrective care you and your doctor, working as a team, can improve the motion, function and longevity of your spine by decompressing, unlocking, reshaping it. Think of corrective care as orthodontics of the spine without the braces.

Fixing a toothache may take a day and cost hundreds, while having your teeth straightened takes years and costs thousands.  Is having your spine corrected and preserved worth as much as having your teeth straightened? You better believe it.  Furthermore, stiffness and hunched posture is what makes young people look and feel old.  Premature aging of the back and back will always occur when the spine buckles forward or is locked on one side.  People notice. As a doctor, I have all too often seen the chronic use of painkillers and muscle relaxants destroy relationships and productive lives while hiding progressive spinal disease.

The cycle of sickness resulting from poor posture can be helped. Posture should be corrected before pain has a chance to develop and must definitely be treated once pain is already being experienced. The quicker the cause of poor posture is determined, the quicker it can be remedied and the vicious cycle will be broken.

Poor posture is a habit and it may take some time to be corrected. A chiropractor can determine if there is a health or developmental problem and can make recommendations to remedy the situation. The chances for correction in most cases are excellent and the results will be worthwhile. Chiropractic has worked miracles when all else has failed. You simply must experience it to truly understand it!

Happy Holiday, Back Pain Dr. Goel Montreal Chiropractor

December 22nd, 2011

Happy Holidays
Holidays can be a very stressful time for a lot of people.   Those who have no family included in their plans, for whatever reason, may feel lonely and depressed.   Those who do celebrate with family and friends may have other stresses.  Planning and preparing for parties can be physically draining.  Visiting with relatives or hosting them in our own home puts addition responsibility and work on us.  Extra cooking, cleaning, decorating, planning – most of us have enough to keep us busy, and   holidays just add to the burden we already shoulder.  But as this season is a very special one, because we love the festivities, the spiritual messages, the togetherness of family, and the wonderful foods, we don’t mind the extra time and effort we put in!
Wonderful foods!  Ah yes.  Food is a vital element in this holiday season, and there is every reason for us to argue with ourselves that we can indulge ourselves, and eat everything that is offered to us. Just for the holidays, we’re going off the diet.  It won’t matter.  We’ll lose the weight in the New Year. But it is not that easy.  The weight we put on is going to take a while to lose, if we are successful at all.  It is obvious from the way Canadians are becoming overweight that we don’t follow through on our resolutions to watch what we eat.  The statistics are frightening.  Half of Canadian adults are overweight.  One in four children is overweight or obese.  Our bodies make no exception for  Christmas or Hannukah .  The more we eat, the more weight we gain.
Office parties, group parties, family parties, friends’ parties.  Someone dear to me made those delicious cookies.  I can’t have just one!  It would insult her.  I must try that chocolate cake.  I’ve been hearing about it for years now, and never tried it.  Oooh, these hors d’oeuves are divine.  I hope the waitress comes around again with the tray.  I want the richest dessert on the menu.  The boss is paying!
The weight  creeps up on us, and then we wake up one morning and look in the mirror, or find that our pants are really too tight now.  At least during this holiday season, it’s better to keep everything under control now than have larger problems to contend with in the future.
Stress is the devil.  The heavier we get, the more stressed the body becomes, and the harder the body has to work to get the tasks done. The harder it has to work, the more exhausted we become. The exhaustion will cause fatigue and the vicious cycle repeats itself.  We will be too tired to exercise. Then we feel guilty and develop low self esteem about our appearance and that produces the stress hormone which enables us to keep up with our stressful situation. The stress hormone is made up of fat and sugar, which is why you experience a high craving for fat and sugar, the so-called comfort foods. The problem with comfort food is that it is not food that our body has a sensor for it. No one can sit down and eat a whole box of tomatoes or broccoli but people can sit down and finish the whole gallon of ice cream without feeling full. The reason is that our body has a sensor for what it recognizes as food. The more stressed out we get, the more junk food we crave,  and the heavier we get.
The adrenalin we produce to deal with stress in our body increases blood pressure, cholesterol level, blood sugar, and extra weight
lead to low back pain, sciatica and premature arthritis, which will affect the function of nervous system and more pain. It is a known fact that our day to day life determines our health more than any other factor, such as genetics. How we live everyday not only determines how we feel today, but it is a strong indicator of our future health.
Every little step either brings us to a life full of vitality and youth, regardless of our age, or it brings us to sickness and disease.
Remember above all, that you should be kind to yourself.  You do not have to do everything in one day.  Give yourself a few minutes break from time to time while preparing for the holidays.  Lastly, in order to accomplish any goal, the inner health of our body is a prerequisite to achieve it. If you are fatigued or in pain,  no amount of motivation will be enough to overcome the obstacle on the road to your dream.
The best gift you can give yourself is the gift of health.  A healthy body needs a healthy nervous system. If you are already in too much pain to do the preparation for the holidays, please listen to your body. It is not too late to find out why your body is screaming so loudly for help. You would not shut off the ringing fire alarm or ignore it.  Why would you do that with your body?
Please take the time to set your goals for the year to come as well. Goals are like a compass, they guide you in the right direction. The clearer the goals are and the more loving the reason behind those goals, whether for your family’s sake or your own self image, the better the chances are for them to succeed.
In the end, these holidays should not be about food alone.  They are about family and friends,    being grateful for what we have and sharing that with the less fortunate, and about remembering happy times and creating new memories to cherish.
Have a wonderful holiday season!

Whiplash : Fact or Fiction?Dr.Goel Montreal Chiropractor

December 8th, 2011

Whiplash : Fact or Fiction? What you need to know!
It’s becoming more and more accepted clinically that “fender benders” are more damaging to the victim than to the cars.  Ask any of the thousands Canadians across the country who have experienced a car accident and you’ll find there’s a very good chance they also have new health problems as a result.

Approximately 50 percent of these victims will eventually suffer from chronic pain. Approximately 10 percent of those people become permanently disabled as a result of their injuries.

Whiplash is “an injury resulting from a sudden, sharp movement of the neck and head (typical injury when a vehicle is struck from the rear)”. The names hyperflexion/hyperextension injury and cervical (neck) acceleration/deceleration injury seem to describe the way the injury happens rather than the array of symptoms experienced by the victims of such an accident.

Several of the myths associated with whiplash injuries are:
 If you’re hit from behind at low speed, you won’t be injured.
 The more damage to your vehicle, the more severe your injuries.
 If you’re injured, the injury will heal completely within 1 to 3 months.

In actuality, the facts are much different:
 Most passenger cars don’t show signs of visible damage unless the impact occurs at or above approximately 10-15 kph.
 The impact speed at which injuries can occur in normal healthy adult males is approximately 7 kph.
 There is no direct relationship between the amount of damage a vehicle sustains and how well the patient will recover from injuries.

The speed and force of the impact affects the victims far more than it does the vehicle in which they are riding.  The vehicle, being rigid, suffers damage only where there is direct contact with the other vehicle.
Human beings are not rigid, and the force of impact moves their heads, bodies and limbs separately. Seatbelts prevent the body being thrown around, but the head and neck are not constrained, and therefore the full impact of the collision is absorbed almost completely by only those parts of the body.

Patients with whiplash-type injuries commonly have one or more of the following symptoms: neck pain, headache, shoulder pain, low back pain, fatigue, sleep disturbances, vision changes, irritability, dizziness, anxiety, forgetfulness and many more.

The patient may not experience symptoms right away. We do know that generally, the more severe damage is, the earlier the symptoms will occur. However, it is common for symptoms to be delayed for days, weeks, months or even years after an injury occurs.  Unfortunately, this delay leaves patients believing that they have not been injured when in fact they have. For these reasons, it is very important for everyone who has been involved in a collision to be examined by their chiropractic doctor as soon as possible, following the incident.

A spinal bone (vertebra) in the neck or upper back becomes misaligned because of that sharp, sudden back-forth movement of the head.  The misaligned spinal bone can injure, press on the nerve roots from that vertebra into the associated part of the body.  That nerve sends alarms to the brain, resulting in the sensation of pain.  The nerve can also send false messages to other parts of the body, so that sometimes, it is hard to really figure out what is causing the pain you are feeling.
Vertebral subluxation is a common condition that can happen as a result of not only trauma, but stress, poor working conditions, poor posture, muscle strain, impact sports, etc. The nerves that carry messages between the brain and all parts of the body pass through our wonderful backbone.  This backbone is really made up of hollow small bones that are stacked in such a way that we have an amazing freedom of movement. But when one of them gets out of sync, because of the above conditions, the nerves that pass through that bone suffer.  Damaged or injured nerves ultimately will affect every aspect of our being, physical, mental, and even spiritual.

Pain can leave you feeling helpless. It is frightening when you can’t control it. You can’t think straight. It is depressing when your body isn’t working correctly and co-operating with you. You don’t feel like yourself. You suffer. Your family suffers. Your work suffers.

The earlier you listen to your body and seek help to fix the root of the problem, the quicker you see results. Even sufferers of chronic pain can find significant relief from their misery.  It is never too late to take advantage of the positive effects your chiropractic has to offer.
If you’re sick and tired of being sick and tired, don’t take it lightly. Call us for your  appointment, (514) 344-6118.We may be able to help.

Love is mobilizing,Fear is paralyzing Dr.Goel Montreal Chiropractor

November 30th, 2011

We live in a society that has trained us to believe that we are either too fat, too skinny, too tall, …… Our nose is too small. You know where I am going with this. We are also bombarded daily “ If you want to be more beautiful, more accepted in society, you need this product…”
Yet when we look around we see that there are so many people with all the things that was suppose to make them feel good still suffering and are on antidepressant.
I believe we can’t find happiness and love from out side. No flower or no other animal behaves the way human have behaving. Most other animals (with the exception of the one we domesticated) live in their natural environment and happy to do so. Humans now live in artificial environment hoping to find all the joy from outside.
Unless and until we truly come to terms with our essence and begin to love ourselves unconditionally no amount of riches from outside can make us happy. Once that is accepted and practiced daily then if I do not like to size of the person that is looking back at me on the mirror then I can take action toward improving it. The essence of us does not change. How much of our light we let shinning through us depends on not the size or the cloths we wear but on how authentically we take the time to improve the living condition for our temple, our body. It is the only friend that will stay with us until the very last breath we take. Let us befriend our temple and treat it as such. Let us be grateful for all the blessing we have and count it daily. The more blessing we count on a day to day basis the more blessing we will have to count.
Depression is a symptom of depressing thought. If you are watching a horror movie that you do not like what will you do? You change the channel. It is the same for our thought, if what you are thinking about is making you feel terrible, change the thought. It is that simple. If you do not like the way things are instead of worrying about it and hating it maybe you ask yourself how I can change it. What can I do to improve it?
No matter how bad life is, there is always a blessing, and we can be grateful for who we are, and what we have right now. Trying to look at the glass as half full is empowering for us. Regardless of the fact that the way you look at it does not change the quantity of liquid, you can only change your reaction to it.
Between a stimulus and a response there is a choice.
Victor Franklin was a psychologist in Germany during the 2nd world war. His entire family was gassed in the gas chambers and he was humiliated, sad and lost, of course. He was in a discussion panel some years later and somebody asked him how he survived the holocaust.
He said, “The Nazis tried to humiliate us. They took everything away from us, they had to crash our soul and our spirit. I had to find peace and love in a concentration camp with a bowl of dirty water with a fish head floating in it. They can take away everything from you except your will; your free will to choose your response.”
No matter where you are in your life in the eyes of the creator you are loved. It is about time we connect to that within ourselves, No matter what is happening outside unless and until we come to terms in truly loving and accepting who we are  we will not be fulfilled. I suggest having a gratitude journal and writing in it daily about what you are grateful. It does not have to be a big thing.
Choose wisely because you matter and your health matters.
With the statistic of 80% of the population being sick, we can no longer just address the surface. We need to address the cause. We need to put our research in education, in infrastructure, and the true message on how to get well and stay well.
When the nervous system is not functioning properly and the spine is out of alignment, pinched nerve it certainly affects our mood and makes us irritated. This could happen without any symptom but if there is ache and pain it will cloud our world lose the sight of the forest for the trees.
The easiest step to improving our health is to make sure the connection between brain (our master system) and the body part is as well as it can be and a chiropractic check up is the first step toward wellness.
Tip of the week: write down at least five blessing you are grateful for in the morning and five before you go to bed.

AAAAA……CHOO! Blow Off The Flu!Dr. Sima Goel,Montreal Chiropractor

November 9th, 2011

Flu season is upon us and with it comes the runny nose, sneezing, coughing, aching muscles and feeling miserable for days on end. Consequently we avoid shaking hands, kissing, or going out in public.  Why do so many of us face this problem in the autumn and winter?  Yet why are there many people who blithely go through the flu season strong and healthy?

To illustrate this, imagine there is a huge pile of garbage on the ground. The smell attracts bugs and flies. Soon many creepy-crawly creatures fester on the site.  Who is to blame for the bugs, the stink, and the accompanying diseases?  The environment was suitable for the bugs to thrive in. The same analogy applies to us. If we catch every virus out there it may be because our environment− our body − is either deficient in proper nutrients or toxic with what harms the body, making our body a great host for these unwanted infectious agents.

Our natural state is to be healthy all the time. A properly functioning immune system is in charge of keeping a strong defense system in place against intruders of all kinds. The nervous system controls the immune system. This means that in order for our immune system to function at its best, the nervous system needs to work properly. Unfortunately, because of all the physical stress – poor posture, sitting for hours on end, sports-related injuries, car accidents – and emotional stress – job loss, divorce, financial problems – our nervous system does not function at its full potential. Unless we are checked regularly by a chiropractor we cannot be aware of the malfunction in the nervous system so when the cold season descends and the flu hits us we are unable to connect the dots. The nervous system is called a master system for this reason: every cell, organ, and tissue in the body depends on proper functioning of the nervous system. The nervous system has to coordinate all the body’s functions harmoniously, but only 10% of the nervous system is spent on detecting pain. Many things, including the immune system, cannot function properly without us feeling any symptom.

The thoracic area is in charge of the immune system.

A study looked at immune-suppressed people and the chiropractors who adjusted them. The result was remarkable. The adjusted patients had a 48% t improvement in their white blood cell count. In other words, the cells that fight against infection are increased by 48%, an enormous improvement.

Sometimes patients call to reschedule their appointments because they have colds; they do not want to infect me.  I encourage these patients to come in anyway, because I won’t catch their colds. It is not about the bug, it is about the environment the bug falls on. I get adjusted regularly, eat nutrient-rich food, exercise 4-6 times per week, meditate daily, and take supplements daily. I have proper defenses.

The question is: When do we get sick? Get the flu?  Do we get the flue when we are in a state of wellness or do we get it when we are run down and stressed out?  Usually we catch it when we are stressed. What drug exists to fix the lack of proper nutrients in our daily diet? What drug exists to compensate for lack of exercise? What drug exists for lack of self-love? The symptoms are the same whether it is cold, flu, or pain. The bottom line is: what we do on a regular daily regular basis not only determines our current level of health, it is the only indicator of our future health.

The same study found that people who received regular adjustments had a lower incidence of immune diseases, including fewer colds and flus. This is because chiropractic adjustment increased the enzyme level of gluthaotine transferase, which cuts and removes the sick intruder and allows the body to repair itself.

Our body is perfect is it is. It only demands of us to feed it proper nutrients in mind, body, and spirit. It demands of us not to intoxicate it with poisons and not to deprive it of essential nutrients such as exercise, enough sleep, green vegetables, proteins, and self-love

When we are healthy, we are more joyful. We are able to perform better and to be contributing members of society. We need to be healthier to take care of our family, our environment, and our world. Right now the water in the sewage system is so polluted from the urine and feces of people who stuff themselves with drugs  because they are sick, that there is no way to clean the water system, a basic element of good health. If there is any hope for us as a species, it is to get healthy and then take care of our environment. We owe it to ourselves and to the next generation.

The first and easiest step to correct our world – both personal and public – is to check the state of our spinal column, which directly affects the state of the master system, the nervous system.

TIP OF THE WEEK: A daily omega-3 supplement is essential for the proper function of immune system.

Wellness Is Our Inherited Right

October 20th, 2011

Wellness Is Our Inherited Right written by Dr. Sima Goel D.C. Montreal Chiropractor
We are living in a sick society. Too many people are sick, dying of heart attacks and cancer at too early an age. Too much promise is being cut down too soon. We recently lost another genius, Steve Jobs, who had much more to contribute to our world, to the ravages of cancer. Why are these monstrous diseases threatening all of us?
We are trained to believe that we have no responsibility for our health. The decline in health and the rapid increase in sickness and disease are attributed to bad germs, bad genes, and bad luck.  Is there any scientific research to prove these widespread beliefs? I have checked to find out if this is true. In my research I found that our genes have not changed for thousands of years but our rate of sickness has increased dramatically over the past fifty years. As we decrease our physical activity, stuff our diets with processed food and live in extreme, on-going, mental stress our disease rate has soared. In the richest part of the world, with every amenity, possibility and choice at our fingertips, we are getting visibly sicker.
The natural state of a plant is a healthy one. If it begins to wither and turn brown, we don’t chop off branches, cut off roots, or stuff it with medication. We give it more sunlight and more water. We improve its natural environment.
The natural state of a human being is a healthy state of being. Our living environment has become an unhealthy environment, incompatible with the survival of our genes, and eventually our body gives us symptoms.  Instead of listening to our body we silence it, with painkillers, drugs, or by removing the offending body part.
Symptoms are our bodies’ warning signs, similar to a fire alarm in the house. No one takes the battery out of the fire alarm and goes back to sleep. Yet in North America, we do precisely that to our most precious asset: our health.
I am disturbed when I see people who are unable to enjoy a good night’s sleep, or go for a walk, digest or eliminate their food properly, or catching every bug floating around, living with ongoing colds, flus and runny noses.  These people blame their health problems on “the weather” – either too cold or too hot – or on getting older. As I have said for the last two decades: getting old is a blessing; feeling old is a curse.
The quality of our life depends on the quality of the questions we ask ourselves. Instead of asking: What is wrong with me? What medication should I take to get rid of the symptom? I suggest that we ask: Why I am sick? How I can get well and stay well?  What is poisoning my body? What am I doing on a regular basis that is bad for me? Am I watching too much TV? Sitting too much? Worrying too much? Eating too much processed food?
What do I lack in my life?  Do I tell myself daily that I love myself? Do I exercise daily?  Do I eat enough servings of fruits and vegetables daily? Do I take care of my nervous system by seeing a chiropractor on regular bases? We have to define what it means to be healthy. Health has a direct correlation with how we live in mind, body and spirit. In order to be well we have to live well. Thinking well, eating well and moving well are part of a whole-care way of living. This all depends on healthy nervous system. No pain is a natural way of being. If we have pain this is nature’s red flag that we are not healthy. When we are in pain we can’t think straight. Chiropractic examination determines the root cause of the pain and your   general state of health.
The level of health we find ourselves in today is an accumulation of all our living habits from the past. If we want to live the many years coming to us in a healthier, happier state, we need to change our behaviour starting today by incorporating healthy habits into our daily lives.  If we don’t change our ways of being, our illnesses will continue to haunt us more frequently in the future. Einstein said it succintly: the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result.
We can no longer leave our most precious asset to chance. Let’s take responsibility for our health. Our lifestyle choices of today impact our lives of tomorrow.
Choose wisely. Choose well, and live a life brimming with good health. It is our natural right. Evaluate the state of your nervous system by having a chiropractic check up.
